Hong Kong-based Emperor Motion Pictures and China’s Wanda Media have acquired the Chinese-language film and TV rights to Keigo Higashino’s best-selling Japanese novel Miracles Of The Namiya General Store.
Keigo Higashino’s works have been brought to the big and small screen mostly in Japan like Lakeside Murder Case. The Devotion of Suspect X. The Hovering Blade, Platinum Data, Midsummer Formula, Galileo Series, Himitsu, Thursday Theater Keigo Higashino Mystery, Henshin to name a few.
Korea recently adapted his 1999 serialized compiled novel Byakuyako (Into the White Night) into White Night staring Han Suk-Kyu and Son Ye-Jin in 2009. 2012 and 2014 brought Perfect Number an adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X (2005 Published) which stared Ryoo Seung-Bum and Lee Yo-Won.and Broken based on the novel The Hovering Blade (2004 Published) which stared Jung Jae-Young and Lee Sung-Min. A French adaptation of Naoko (1998) was made into The Secret, directed by actor Vincent Perez, in 2007.
This will be the first time that any of Keigo Higashino’s works will be brought to the big and small screen for the Chinese market. Published in 2012, Miracles Of The Namiya General Store has won Japan’s prestigious Chuo Koron Literary Prize that same year. Since being translated for the Chinese market it has sold over 1.6 million copies and become a top 10 seller for Amazon China. An Korean edition is also available too.
Production is due to start next year with a release time of 2017. Cast and director announcements will be made in the very near future. Rights for Miracles Of The Namiya General Store were acquired from Japanese publisher Kadokawa Corporation.
