The first footage has hit the internet of director Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming sci-fi epic, Snowpiercer. With a star studded cast featuring, Chris Evans, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Alison Pill, and Korean superstar Song Kang-ho, Snowpiercer revolves around a train traveling along an icy stretch, containing the last dregs of humanity. With wealthy passengers in decadent cars up front and the rest in the rear, class warfare and the human need for survival erupts in this new science fiction epic.
Roughly running a minute the video features director Bong Joon-ho discussing the production and reveals some tantalizing bits of the action. Sets are dreary and dark, not unlike Blade Runner-esque alleyways, and there is a grittiness that will seem familiar to viewers of The Host. It does certainly seem to want to showcase the conflict of humanity when faced at odds with one another, and the sheer scale of the picture is unlike and Korean films in recent memory. I certainly look forward to the movie when it (hopefully) gets released later this year.
