The next animated film for Studio Ghibli has been announced to be an adaptation of Joan G. Robinson’s novel, “When Marnie Was There.” Following an adopted child named Anna who moves to the coast in a small rural village. As loneliness sets in she makes a friend in the mysterious and somewhat odd girl Marnie. As the two spend their summer together, it is discovered that their meeting was no simple coincidence. Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arriety), I have full confidence of another visually striking and human tale from the animation masters at Studio Ghibli. Look for it to hit Japanese cinemas in late 2014.
